Follow these tips for exhausted moms to help you get started:
1. Place Importance on Self-Care
Do not be afraid to take some time for yourself! Yes, that is easier said than done. However, taking some time for you to look after yourself by taking a bath, reading a book, soaking your feet in a foot spa, or getting a massage may help you relax and feel good.
Of course, I realise that your baby and your parenting come first and sometimes it may not be possible for you to do this. The other day, I fed my baby drew myself a nice bath, and hopped in. My bath was shortly interrupted by my baby crying and screaming at the top of her lungs. I could not just sit there and had to get out to check up on her and my partner. As soon as I got there it was fine, however, sometimes it is so hard to relax because we worry about our little ones.
If we make sure to prioritise our self-care we will be able to do some things!
2. Get Enough Sleep
Try to get enough sleep, a lack of sleep can have us feeling super drained and not ready for the day. Aim to get as much rest as you can. Take a nap during the day if you need it.
I know it is so easy to try to get things done while the baby is sleeping during the day. But you have got to look after yourself. Taking a nap may just be what you need to get your energy up to help you for the rest of the day. There have been numerous times when I tried to power through the morning and schedule a nap for myself in the afternoon but had not had luck doing it. Take my advice and take a nap when you can, you never know how the rest of the day will end up.
3. Take Time to Exercise
Exercising is good to help you increase energy levels and release endorphins which make you happy. Yes, I know you may be thinking that you do not have the energy to do anything, why would you want to exercise?
Well, even a short walk or a bit of exercise can make a difference in how you feel. Initially, you may need to force yourself to go for a walk and get some fresh air, soon it will get easier for it to become a part of your routine.
4. Pay Attention to your Eating Habits
You need to eat enough to be able to keep your energy up. Make sure you eat a balanced diet! Fruits, vegetables, and protein.
Get some healthy snacks and prioritise your meal times! A sugar snack can boost your energy quickly, but too much can lead to a sugar crush! I am not saying to stay off the chocolate, but to ensure you have a balanced diet!
5. ASK FOR HELP
You may be a super mom, but you do not need to do everything yourself. Is there someone that can help you? Delegate tasks to your partner, kids, parents, and or friends. They can help you and may even be happy that they are doing something useful.
While I know and understand that I can do things much quicker and exactly the way I want them if I do them myself, however, a tired mom is a mom that needs to learn when to ask for help. As a new mom, you need to learn how to delegate! And to take a break in that time!
6. Connect with Other Moms
Why not join a moms’ group or go grab a coffee with a friend? Joining different communities may help you feel less isolated.
Joining an online platform is a great way for new moms to connect and give each other advice. Sometimes it can be so comforting to know that you are not the only one struggling. You can get some good advice from other moms to help you with your new baby.
7. Learn How to Say No
It is important to make sure that you allow yourself to know your limits and learn how not to overload yourself! There are certain times when you may not want to do something or you are not ready and that is okay. For example, if you are not ready to see your friends after you have given birth, then be honest about it! They should be able to understand.
